Dr. Carlos García
TEDxClemsonU Faculty Advisor
Dr. Carlos D García is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Clemson University, serves as a Faculty Success Fellow in the Office of Faculty Affairs, and has spoken at TEDxClemsonU in previous years. Originally from Argentina, he earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the National University of Córdoba before completing postdoctoral fellowships at Mississippi State University and Colorado State University.

After joining Clemson in 2015, he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2018. His group is focused on the study of interactions of proteins with nanostructured surfaces and their use in analytical chemistry. Additionally, he is developing microfluidic devices to monitor biologically active compounds.

Michael’s journey began with a dream of becoming an astronaut, inspired by watching the moon landing with his grandfather. A height restriction shifted his path, but not his passion—he dedicated his career to solving problems and breaking barriers with innovative solutions.
With over 25 years in automotive quality engineering and certifications in Shainin Red X and Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Michael has consistently delivered results, saving over $1 million annually through creative problem-solving.

Michael's dedication led him to deliver impactful TEDx Talks receiving more views than 98% of all TEDx-talks on preparing children for the future and transforming leadership styles. Now, as the founder of Protean Quality Systems, he helps others develop the skills to tackle their biggest challenges through structured problem finding with innovative solutions.
Michael's mission is helping others build their taller spaceships, by solving complex problems and driving excellence.
